Questions families ask
Practical answers for choosing photos and using the game with someone who has dementia.
Who is this for?
PhotoMatchFun is for families and caregivers of someone living with mild to moderate dementia or mild cognitive impairment. It can also be used by care teams looking for a simple, personal activity.
What photos should I use?
Choose clear photos of people they still recognize: a partner, children, grandchildren, close friends, or caregivers. Familiar faces matter more than variety, and a few clear faces beat a large mixed album.
Classic vs themed: which should I pick?
Start with Classic. It keeps familiar faces unchanged and is usually the better choice for dementia care. Choose Themed only if the person still enjoys novelty and illustrated versions of familiar people.
How does Walgreens pickup work?
Choose Walgreens pickup while creating the game, select a nearby participating store, and place the order. Most eligible orders are ready the same day; the store confirms when pickup is ready.
Can this be used in a care home or day program?
Yes. Families and care teams can use the cards for gentle matching, recognition, reminiscence, or conversation. Keep the activity relaxed and adapt it to the person rather than treating it like a test.
Is this a medical treatment?
No. PhotoMatchFun is an activity. It does not diagnose, treat, or slow dementia. Research supports related approaches such as reminiscence and cognitive stimulation.
